The first step to getting rid of your clutter is to recognize the different types of clutter you have accumulated over the years. There are 3 main types of clutter and once we identify them, we can talk about sorting, donating and moving your clutter.
Look around your living room. Do you have a book on the coffee table that you’ve never opened or running shoes that you have never worn? We often hold onto these items that we never use on the off chance that we will need it some day. It’s not a bad thing but now we have stuff that we do not need that takes up space that could be used otherwise. The what if” of clutter is the first type of clutter that we need to sort through by asking ourselves will I ever use this or is this just a passing trend?”
Free promotional items can be attributed to the next category of clutter: bargain clutter. Maybe you were walking through the mall and some overly excited salesperson convinced you to try a sample of a new lotion. Sure the sample smells great but you can’t see yourself using it without being prompted. As you walk away, they decide to sweeten the deal by offering you a free travel size sample or bag with a purchase. By adding the word free” to the deal, you are more inclined to make the purchase. Flash forward a year later and you have the same lotion and free tote that you have never used. I think it is safe to say that these items won’t be used anytime soon and can either be donated or recycled.
The final type of clutter is sentimental clutter from your childhood or a specific person. This type of clutter is often the hardest to get rid of since you have built an emotional attachment to it over the years. Maybe it reminds you of a loved one who has passed on or something that no longer exists. Whatever the reason, this clutter can be sorted by asking yourself a few questions.
    1. Will I ever use this again?
    2. Can I use this item to make something else?
    3. Can you not bear to part with this item if your life depended on it?
    4. Would you save it if you could only keep 5 items?
If the answer to any of these questions is no, it can probably be donated or recycled.
Okay so now we’ve sorted through all of the clutter and you have a large pile of stuff to either be donated or thrown out. Now’s the time to give us a call. Fully licensed and insured in New York, we are equipped to provide same day appointments and on-site removal every day including weekends.
